If you may be in danger
Call 911 in the United States, or your local emergency number. If you are thinking about harming yourself, call or text 988, or chat at https://988lifeline.org/. These are free, confidential, and open all day and night. Please do that first. This page will still be here.
What this is
Hope After Loss Project is grief education and coaching, offered by Joel Ojeda, a person who has lived through the kind of loss you may be living through. The programme, the writing, the cohorts, and the coaching sessions come from that experience and from the study that followed it. They are offered as companionship, structure, and perspective — the things that helped him, laid out in a way you can walk at your own pace.
What this is not
It is not therapy, counselling, psychotherapy, psychiatric care, medical treatment, or crisis intervention. Joel is not a licensed mental-health clinician, and nothing here is a diagnosis, a treatment plan, or medical advice. Taking part in the programme does not create a therapist–client or doctor–patient relationship.
Certified facilitators have completed training in leading this programme. That training is not a clinical qualification, and a facilitator is not a therapist.
If you are in therapy, or think you might need to be, this programme can sit beside it. It should not replace it. If a clinician has given you advice that differs from anything here, follow the clinician.
Messages and the community are not monitored
Messages between members are not read in real time by anyone. A message to another member, or to Joel, is not a way to reach help in an emergency. If a member writes something that worries you, use the report button — but if someone may be in immediate danger, call the number above first.
No promised outcome
Grief does not run to a timetable and neither does this programme. We cannot promise how you will feel at the end of it, or that it will be right for you. Some people find a particular lesson too much on a particular day; it is always fine to stop, step away, and come back later, or not.
Faith
Joel's faith is part of his story and it appears in his writing. The programme is open to people of any faith and of none, and nothing in it requires you to share his. Where it comes up, it is offered, never imposed.
Your responsibility
You are the person best placed to know what you can carry. Please read with care for yourself, tell someone you trust if you are struggling, and reach for professional help when you need it. Using this platform means you have read this page and understand the boundary it describes.
