Our commitment

Grief does not care whether you can see the screen, use a mouse, or read quickly. This platform is built to be usable by as many people as we can manage, including people who use a screen reader, who navigate by keyboard, who need large text or high contrast, or who are exhausted and need a page to be simple.

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA.

What we do

Every page is built with meaningful headings, labelled form fields, visible keyboard focus, and text that can be resized to 200% without loss. Colours are chosen for contrast. Nothing flashes. Reading text is kept to a comfortable measure. A skip link at the top of every page takes keyboard users straight to the content.

An automated accessibility check runs against the public site, the member platform, and the staff screens on every change, and a change that introduces a critical or serious violation cannot ship. At the time of writing this covers more than twenty distinct surfaces, including these legal pages, the lesson player, the writing areas, onboarding, and the admin tools. A second automated check works each surface by keyboard alone: it confirms the skip link is the first thing reached and that it works, that every control shows its focus, and that nothing hijacks the tab order.

What we know is not yet right

Automated checks are a floor, not proof. The following have not yet been done, and we say so rather than imply otherwise:

• A full manual review with a screen reader (VoiceOver, NVDA, or JAWS) across the member journey.
• A manual review at 400% zoom on a small screen.
• Testing with people who rely on assistive technology day to day.

Things we have chosen deliberately

Some lessons ask you to write. The writing areas save as you type, and what you have written survives a reload, so losing focus or navigating away does not lose your words. Long documents can be downloaded as Word files to read in whatever way suits you. The first-visit tour can be skipped and does not come back unless you ask for it.
